The Brooklawns neighborhood is located in southcentral St. Louis Park and is a part of Ward 2. The CP Railroad serves as the neighborhood’s northern boundary line and Excelsior Boulevard makes up the south line. Brooklawns is bordered by the South Oak Hill, Meadowbrook, Elmwood, Brookside, and Creekside neighborhoods. Brooklawns was a product of the post war building boom in St. Louis Park back in the 1950’s. After the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, 5 million veterans were made eligible to purchase  houses. In Minnesota, the City of St. Louis Park issued the third largest amount of building permits with 1,122 in 1950. The neighborhood of Brooklawns was developed by Douglas Rees Associates during this time and is now home to 380 residents.

The neighborhood is comprised of 150 acres of land with 6 residential blocks. Over 57 percent of Brooklawns is commercial property, including almost all of the northern half of the neighborhood, which contains primarily railroad activity. Houses are predominantly single family that were built in the 1950’s. Brooklawns consists of 150 single family homes, 8 duplexes, and 11 apartments, which are located in the southeast corner of the neighborhood. Housing prices range from $150,000 to $210,000.

Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital and Women’s Center are located in southwest Brooklawns. Built in the mid 1950’s, Methodist Hospital is renowned for its medical expertise, dedicated patient care, and outstanding disease management. The hospital specializes in cardiovascular, cancer, neurohabilitation medicine, and maternity care. The new Women’s Center on the Methodist campus specializes in preemptive and speciality care services. Located in the southeast residential area of Brooklawns is Bunny’s Bar & Grill. Established in 1933, Bunny’s is the traditional meeting place for locals to relax with friends, enjoy a meal, and watch sports. The grill and bar serves Classic American food and and craft beers.

Two neighborhood parks are located close to Brooklawns. Justad Park, in the nearby neighborhood of Elwood, offers several amenities for residents to enjoy, including its playground, basketball court, horseshoe pit, and picnic shelter. The quiet park provides a safe and family-friendly environment. Also nearby is Jorvig Park. Once a bustling train depot for the Milwaukee/St. Louis Railroad, Jorvig Park is now a peaceful outdoor destination for residents. The park’s most popular feature is its bike trail that runs along the former railroad track. Other amenities include a playground, horseshoe pit, and restroom facilities.
