Inver Grove Heights area schools are excellent. Most of the city of Inver Grove Heights is served by Independent School District 199. The District operates five schools in the city: Simley High School, Inver Grove Heights Middle School, Hilltop Elementary, Pine Bend Elementary, and Salem Hills Elementary.
Salem Hills Elementary is also home to Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program which is proud to be a National Blue Ribbon High Performing School. Students in Atheneum have to meet eligibility criteria determined by a district identification committee. Inver Grove Heights is also home to Inver Hills Community College. Founded in 1970, the college is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU) system. The 90-acre campus consists of nine buildings, as opposed to many community and technical colleges, which are mainly housed in one or two buildings. Inver Hills has more than 4,000 students per semester, and the college offers 27 degree associate programs in liberal education as well as career-related degrees
