The City of St. Mary’s Point is a part of Stillwater Area Public Schools. Independent School District 834 spans 30 miles along the St. Croix River, serving 18 communities. Today, the district serves about 8,800 students in grades K-12. Stillwater Area Public Schools is home to ten elementary schools, two junior high schools, and one high school.
Afton-Lakeland Elementary, situated in Lakeland, is home to students in grades K-6. The staff at Afton-Lakeland is outstanding and seek to support each of the 500 students. Students are offered a STEM program to enhance knowledge in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. SMART boards are also used in the classrooms to enhance learning through lessons. The mission at Afton-Lakeland Elementary is “to ensure a rigorous and relevant education where all learners are valued, positive relationships developed and students are prepared for life-long learning in a global society”.
Oak-Land Junior High, located in Lake Elmo, is one of two junior highs in the district. About 850 students in grades 7-9 attend Oak-Land. At the school, 8th and 9th graders are offered AVID, which is a college readiness system. In addition to excellent academics, students have many extracurricular options. Athletics include football, soccer, volleyball, tennis, cross country, track and field, swim and dive, baseball, softball, and wrestling. Club opportunities include choir, orchestra, math club, fiddle club, jazz band, fitness club, science club, yearbook club, ski club, and more.
Stillwater Area High School (SAHS), in Oak Park Heights, is the only high school in Independent School District 834. Situated on 139 acres along the beautiful St. Croix River, SAHS boasts a campus-like setting. All 2,200 students in grades 10-12 have ample opportunities in the school’s six period two semester year. College-bound students are prepared with rigorous academics. Advanced Placement courses and off-site post-secondary education options are available to students. SAHS offers an Environmental Learning Center (ELC), and the campus allows for access to fields, ponds, mixed forests, and wildlife. STEM and AVID options are also provided. With the motto “we learn not for school but for life”, Stillwater Area High School seeks to equip students not only for high school, but also for their futures.
