City of Farmington: School & ISD 192

Farmington schools are operated within the Independent School District 192, also known as Farmington Area Public Schools. The district enrolls 6,900 students from grades K-12. The city of Farmington realizes the importance of education with a large portion of its population under the age of 18. In a 2010 census, of the 7,000 households in the city of Farmington, 51 percent had children under the age of 18.  

One of Farmington’s most outstanding schools is Meadowview Elementary. The school’s mission is ignite creative, critical, and collaborative thinking in all learners. Staff at Meadowview customize learning to meet the diverse needs of students. In the school’s 2015 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments Series III, 91 percent of students scored proficient or higher in math. Parents can expect a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at Meadowview Elementary where student needs are put.

North Trail Elementary School is another excellent elementary school in Farmington. The mission at North Trail is to inspire lifelong learning and empower all students to reach their highest potential, academically and socially, while succeeding in an ever-changing world. Students at North Trail visit the Media Center at least once a week, for technology and literacy blended classes (ITL classes), in addition to book checkout. The school also has Gifted and Enhanced Learning program that includes advanced math classes. North Trail is highly rated by the community of Farmington because of its rigorous academics and committed staff.   

Levi P. Dodge is one of two middle schools located in Farmington. The school is named after Levi P. Doge, a longtime school board member and education advocate in Dakota County. The school’s mission is to nurture desire and passion for learning that insures individual and collective growth. In 2012, 80 percent of students scored proficient or higher in reading in the MCA-III. Athletic opportunities are offered at Dodge Middle School including, cross country, football, soccer, swim, dive, tennis, basketball, baseball, and more. Other activities like computer/anime and STEM clubs, strength programs, and music are available to students.

A variety of different private schooling options are also available in the city of Farmington, including Christian Life Academy. Christian Life puts a strong emphasis on strengthening student’s spiritual lives with an inter-denominational student body and faculty. The school is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International with comprehensive programs for Preschool to twelfth grade. Students at Christian Life consistently score 1-2 year higher in standardized tests scores. Athletics opportunities are also available to students. The school has baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and basketball teams for students to compete.

Farmington is home to one, public high school. Farmington High School serves over 1,100 students with 130 faculty members. The school has a wide variety of activities and clubs, including speech teams, theatre, arts, marching band, and student leadership teams. Farmington High School also provides a wide variety of sports opportunities for students. Fall sports include football, cross country, soccer, volleyball, and swim. Winter and spring sports include basketball, hockey, wrestling, gymnastics, baseball, softball, and lacrosse. Farmington High School’s mission is to ensure each student reaches his or her highest aspirations while embracing responsibility to the community.
