In the northwest corner of St. Louis Park is the neighborhood of Shelard park. Shelard Park is bordered by the City of Plymouth to the north, I-394 to the south, Highway 169 to the east, and the City of Minnetonka to the west. The 109 acre neighborhood, which is about 3 residential blocks, is around 34 percent commercial and 6 percent parks and open spaces. The area that is now Shelard Park was once a part of Minnetonka. After its annexation to St. Louis Park in 1955, the city’s original plan was to build a shopping center in the space. Shelard Park is home to one neighborhood park, which is Shelard Park. The park is mainly 7 acres of open green space and wetlands for residents to stroll through on various walking trails.
