Sunfish Lake, Minnesota is situated in Independent School District 197. All or some parts of Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota, Mendota Heights, Sunfish Lake, Lilydale, and West St. Paul are served by the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan School District. Garlough Environmental Magnet School (GEMS) is an elementary school located in West St. Paul, which serves many children from Sunfish Lake. GEMS offers students in grades K-4 with rigorous environmental curriculum, with an emphasis on science, technology, and math. Because of its close proximity to Dodge Nature Center, students benefit from the facility where outdoor classrooms take place. Use of ipods, ipads, Macbooks, SMART boards, Vernier’s Probeware, GPS, USB Proscopes, and more is prominent because of GEMS belief that up-to-date technology is essential.

Friendly Hills Middle School, located in Mendota Heights, serves many students from the City of Sunfish Lake. In District 197, Friendly Hills is one of two middle schools and serves students in grades 5-8. The school emphasizes integrating technology, the arts, and rigorous academics. Caring teachers support each students and promote critical thinking skills. Everything at Friendly Hills is guided by the “STAR” philosophy, which emphasizes Service, Technology, Arts, and Rigor. Students at Friendly Hills also take part in extracurricular activities in the areas of arts, academics, leadership, and athletics.

Henry Sibley High School, situated just minutes from Sunfish Lake, serves students in grades 9-12 from a combination of cities, including all or parts of Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota, Mendota Heights, Sunfish Lake, Lilydale, and West St. Paul. Henry Sibley is home to outstanding academics programs, which challenge and prepare students for their futures. Each student is set up for success with over 150 course options taught by caring teachers. Advanced Placement, Project Lead the Way as well as College in the Schools, Post-Secondary Enrollment Options, and Seniors to Sophomores programs are all offered. In addition to academics, Henry Sibley students have over 50 clubs, sports teams, service activities, and academic organizations to take part in.
