City of Waconia: A Brief Overview

Once a tourist attraction, and situated in Carver County, Waconia, Minnesota is 45 minutes away from Minneapolis. Since the year of 2000, the population has increased by 5,000, and it currently stands at 11,500. This rapid growth is due to the exciting and active community that has formed within the city as well as it’s increasingly desirable location due to the development of the surrounding cities. The city limits cover an area of about 4.4-square miles. The two main routes through the city are MN State Highways 5 and 284, which connect with Interstate 494 to the east, and U.S. Highway 212 to the south.

The city took its name from Lake Waconia, which is the 2nd largest lake in the 7-county metropolitan area. This lake provides a wide variety of recreational activities. The city is also close to Crown College, which is located within the city of St. Bonifacius, a town that is completely encompassed by the city of Waconia.

Waconia is a well-developed city that has plenty of amenities to provide for its residents. From downtown shopping either within the city or in the larger, nearby suburbs like Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, or Chaska, the city of Waconia has much to offer.
