City of Shoreview: Parks & Trials

The city of Shoreview, Minnesota is home to an active parks and recreation department. With 14 parks encompassing an area of over 1400 acres, there is no shortage of outdoor spaces for residents and visitors alike to explore. Of Shoreview’s 14 parks, 10 are city parks and 4 are county parks. The city also features 55 miles of trails that are both regional and local. These trails connect the neighborhoods, schools, parks, and commercial areas together. A final feature of Shoreview’s park system are its lakes. The city is home to seven lakes, offering great boating and fishing opportunities. Some of the most notable parks in Shoreview include:

McCullough Park: McCullough Park is a massive community park located in the northern half of Shoreview. At 75 acres, the park is home to a wide variety of passive and active recreational options. For those desiring a more relaxed experience, McCullough Park offers 1 mile of walking paths through the woods and along a bridge. This scenic route takes visitors past an abundance of wildlife in a natural woodland setting. Other passive opportunities include a picnic shelter with an outdoor grill for family gatherings and grill-outs. On the other hand, McCullough Park offers exceptional active amenities. The park is home to playground equipment, a hockey rink with a warming house, lacrosse and soccer fields, a basketball court, two tennis courts, and two baseball fields. Amidst all of these amenities there is also plenty of open space in which visitors can run around or relax.

Rice Creek Fields: When it comes to athletics within Shoreview, the Rice Creek Fields are the go-to destination. At 10 acres in size, the Rice Creek Fields pack several fantastic amenities within their borders. The fields are most frequently used for baseball. There are 4 tournament quality fastpitch ballfields, batting cages, and training areas available for community teams and leagues. The fields are also host to a picnic shelter, restroom facility, walking paths, a playground, and two baseball sculptures that greet players as they enter the park. Especially busy during the warmer months, the Rice Creek Fields are a great place to engage in America’s pastime both on and off the field.

Shoreview Commons: At 40 acres, the Shoreview Commons act as a community gathering grounds. With amenities suitable for all ages, the Shoreview Commons are a treasured park within the city of Shoreview. Conveniently located adjacent to the Shoreview Community Center, the Shoreview Commons include two soccer fields, a basketball court, walking paths, two playgrounds, a picnic shelter with outdoor grills, two sand volleyball courts, a hockey rink, a warming house, two tennis courts, two ballfields, a beautiful pavilion, and a skatepark. With so many amenities, many of which that are related to the different seasons, the Shoreview Commons are a community destination year-round.

Island Lake Park: One of Shoreview’s notable county parks is Island Lake Park. Located on Island Lake, Island Lake Park offers residents of Ramsey County several fantastic amenities. The most notable amenity found at the park is its boat access. Boaters and fisherman can enjoy a public boat launch as well as shoreline fishing and fishing pier locations. This connection to the water makes Island Lake Park a busy destination during the warmer months. The park features three large picnic shelters which are available for rent by members of the community. Two of these shelters feature water and electricity, and all three include ample seating for events and gatherings. The park also includes a large playground, a ballfield, two sand volleyball courts, and plenty of parking.

Turtle Lake Park: Located on the largest lake in Shoreview, Turtle Lake, Turtle Lake Park is one of four county parks located within the city. While offering fewer amenities than some of the other county parks, the large waterfront more than makes up for it. Turtle Lake Park includes one large picnic shelter, outdoor grills, a playground, a ballfield, a swimming beach, and a boat launch. With great access to the lake, places to play, and areas to relax, guests are sure to enjoy Turtle Lake Park and its amenities, especially during the warmer months.
