City of Norwood Young America: Parks & Trails

Norwood Young America is a smaller community located west of the Twin Cities metro. It features a number of outdoor recreational options available for its residents. Residents enjoy the city’s 9 parks including a skate park and a host of lakes including Eagle Lake, Hydes Lake, Rice Lake, Barnes Lake, Tiger Lake, Brand Lake, Lake Patterson and more. It is through the wealth of outdoor amenities that Norwood Young America’s community shines. Some of the most notable examples include:

Friendship Park: The largest park in Norwood Young America, Friendship park features softball fields, tennis courts, a soccer field, two playground areas, a picnic shelter, and an ice rink in the winter time. Legion Park: Legion Park is one of the most popular parks in Norwood Young America. As the home of the West Carver outdoor community pool, many residents make use of the cool water on hot, sunny days. In addition to the pool, Legion Park features a picnic shelter, bathroom, playground, and a sand volleyball court. This wealth of outdoor amenities makes Legion Park a central location during the summer months.

Prairie Dawn Park: A small, community park, Prairie Dawn Park features a playground, picnic shelter, and half basketball court. The quieter, peaceful setting of this park makes it ideal for young families or for those desiring simple, summer fun.

Willkommen Memorial Park: Taking its name from its German heritage, Willkommen Memorial Park serves as a welcoming park for Norwood Young America’s visitors. With a baseball field, pavilion, gazebo, picnic shelter, playground, and restrooms, this park offers all of the amenities needed for a wondefful afternoon at the park. Many baseball tournaments are hosted here as it is the home of the Young America Cardinals baseball team. In addition, it features a historic Olde Towne in the park. This offers children and families alike a glimpse at what historic homes were like in the area. Willkommen Memorial Park is the host of the annual Stiftungsfest celebration, Norwood Young America’s most popular event.

Sports Complex: The Norwood Young America Sports Complex is the home to many of the city’s recreational and league-based sporting teams, including the Norwood Indians baseball team. With a baseball field, two softball fields, playground, a picnic shelter area, and restroom facilities, the Sports Complex is the perfect site for family recreation as well as community league sports. It is a particularly active community destination during the summer months.
