The community of Mendota is comprised of around only 200 residents. Even so, the city embraces its small size and works to maintain long-lasting legacy. Residents of the community are well-connected and value their close proximity to the Twin Cities and quiet neighborhoods. The Mendota community is primarily shaped by its events, amenities, and location.

In the month of July, residents gather together to celebrate Mendota Day. Mendota Day is the city’s only event but it attracts visitors from all over the state of Minnesota. The main feature of the event is the Mendota Day Parade, which starts at the historic Church of St. Peter. The celebration also includes martial arts demonstrations, family art at Sibley House, craft booths, bounce houses, face painting, a police bike rodeo, fire truck rides, food, and music by local bands.

The City of Mendota does not have an abundance of amenities. However, many amenities can be found in nearby neighboring cities. Residents frequently visit Highland Park Library in St. Paul. The library is home to thousands of resources and offers an extensive database for visitors to utilize.

Golfing opportunities are also available in nearby cities. Mendakota Country Club in nearby Mendota Heights offers a premium golfing experience at an affordable cost. The club features an 18-hole, par 72 course with rolling hills and mature trees. Numerous amenities are provided for members of the club, including bunkers, refined greens, and enhanced tee complexes. Tees measure from 5206 to 7001 yards.

Mendota is primarily known as one of the first American settlements in the state of Minnesota. Because of this, the city has labored to preserve its original buildings. Visitors are able to tour the historic Sibley House, Dupois House, Faribault House, and City Jail during the summer months.

Perhaps the largest factor that shapes the community of Mendota is the city’s location. Residents enjoy a quick 11 miles to St. Paul and Minneapolis, where more amenities such as shops, dining, and entertainment can be found. Even with its close proximity to the Twin Cities, residents still enjoy the quiet neighborhoods along the banks of the rivers.
