City of Lilydale: A Brief Overview

Lilydale, Minnesota located along the Mississippi River, and home to about 700 residents, is a small city with Dakota County. This little town was founded in 1886. What was once just agricultural land has been completely changed into developments of beautiful town-homes, condominium and apartment buildings. The businesses in the city have been prosperous, as they provide employment to people within the town.

Proud of it history and current success, Lilydale possesses the distinct feel of both small town country and city.  Resting along a small stretch of land in the northern portion Northern Dakota County by Highway 13, this bedroom community is completely encompassed by a national park called the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. The neighboring communities of Lilydale are St. Paul, Mendota Heights, and Mendota.

Lilydale is just minutes from both Minneapolis and Saint Paul as both Hwy 13 and I35-E provide access around the metro. Lilydale has a total geographical area of 0.87 square miles; of which 0.29 square miles consists of water, and because the city lies within a national park, the city offers many jaw-dropping vantage points for viewing the Mississippi River.

On the top of the bluff, where the majority of the residents live, are many of the homes and neighborhoods. The residents love the views of the river and the frequent sightings of eagles as they fly overhead. There are also many parks and trails throughout this small town, the most popular of these parks being Lilydale Regional Park and the Big Rivers Regional Trail. With the mix outdoor activities paired with being in the middle of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, residents in Lilydale are happy with the location of their homes.
