The city of Hanover, Minnesota is one of the cities on the outer border of Hennepin County. Located northwest of Minneapolis, Hanover is home to close to 3,000 residents. Due to its location on the border of Hennepin County, a portion of the city lies within Wright County. Residents of Hanover enjoy the peaceful, close-knit community that the city provides. With numerous events and amenities provided within the city, residents are actively engaged with their community.

Hanover’s residents enjoy numerous events throughout the year. One of the longest-running and most popular events is the Hanover Lions Smelt Fry. For over 40 years the local Lions Club has hosted an all-you-can-eat Smelt fry for the local community. Not only does this event bring the community together, but proceeds raised go back into Lions events for the community.

A popular annual event among the children in the community is the Easter Egg Hunt. With lots of candy, pictures with the Easter Bunny, and refreshments, this event is always a hit.

The biggest event each year, however, is the Hanover Harvest Festival. Each year the Harvest Festival celebrates life within the city of Hanover. Activities include a crowning of Hanover royalty, 5k race, parade, fireworks, a classic car show, a softball tournament, food and drink, a marketplace, and much, much more. Always drawing in large crowds, the majority of the Hanover community participates in this wonderful event. Other popular events include free movies and music in the local park, and visits from the Minnesota ZooMobile.

There are several organizations that play a role in Hanover’s community. The Hanover Athletic Association is a very important organization within the community. In addition to providing numerous leagues and tournaments for the city, the association owns and operates two ball fields and an ice skating rink with a warming house. These facilities are used by the community in sporting leagues and community events. Additionally, in the summer the ice rink doubles as a skate board area. The Crow River Senior Center is another important organization. While not located within Hanover, the center is open to Hanover’s senior citizens. Providing programming, meals, and recreational trips, the Crow River Senior Center is a great resource for senior citizens in Hanover. The Hanover Lions Club is another important organization for the community. In addition to providing regular events for the community, the Lions Club also sponsors numerous city teams and initiatives.

Residents in Hanover who are desiring greater variety do not have to venture very far. Hanover is close to the premium shopping center in Albertville, and residents can find many other amenities in the nearby city of Rogers. Additionally, Hanover is only about 28 miles from the Twin Cities metro area, giving residents access to the rich amenities found there. Top-notch dining, shopping, entertainment, parks, and employment opportunities are only a short drive away.

Living in Hanover is a lifestyle choice. The city is small, and in a more rural location, offering residents a peaceful, country lifestyle. However, it’s location near the metro area enables residents to enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life if they so choose.
