City of Columbus: A Brief Overview

The city of Columbus, Minnesota is a large city located northeast of the Twin Cities metro area. Encompassing a total area of nearly 48 square miles, the city is one of the biggest cities in Anoka County (land area-wise). Home to around 4,000 residents, Columbus has a rural community feel. Residents enjoy lots of open space within their city including several lakes, and a very large, regional park. Despite its rural feel, it does include several commercial developments, the most notable being the Running Aces Casino & Racetrack.

Columbus is about 26 miles (30 minutes) away from Minneapolis. The major route through the city is Interstate 35. This highway splits in the southeast corner of Columbus, branching into Interstates 35W and 35E. Each of these highways connects to the Twin Cities metro area, with 35W heading towards Minneapolis and 35E towards St. Paul. Residents of Columbus are close enough to the Twin Cities to enjoy their urban amenities while maintaining a semi-rural way of life.
