City of Nowthen: Community Life

The City of Nowthen, Minnesota is a community in northwest part of Anoka County. The city of Nowthen is laid out over 35.10 square miles and is home to about 4,444 residents. With the motto, “Where It Still Feels Like Country”, Nowthen offers a small town feel yet is situated near many amenities.

In order to maintain a close-knit community, Nowthen offers many family friendly events. Nowthen Heritage Days is a popular local event. Heritage Days is a fall festival set up to celebrate the community. With a giant slide, scarecrows, inflatables, tractors, pumpkins, petting zoo, children’s activities center, and many vendors with food and handmade items, there is something for everyone.

Nowthen Threshing Days is a three day event within the city. Every year the Threshing Show draws thousands of people. This show features hundreds of rare and historic antique tractors, small engines, steam engines, trucks, cars, implements, and tools. The Nowthen Threshing Days brings the past to the present and is a hit among locals of all ages.

Within the city of Nowthen, residents enjoy a Farmers Market running from June to September. The Farmers Market seeks “to provide fresh locally grown produce and locally made products to our community for their enjoyment and promoting healthy lifestyles as well as providing an environment for community involvement”. Every week the Farmers Market is a great gathering place to meet others in the community and enjoy fresh produce and products. Local music and storytime for children are also featured at the Nowthen Farmers Market.
