While the city of New Trier, Minnesota is a very small community there are many outdoor amenities within close proximity in nearby cities. Some of the most popular parks include:

Miesville Ravine Park Reserve: located in Cannon Falls, is a great option for New Trier residents. The park is a large nature preserve that offers picturesque views of the Cannon River Valley. Locals take advantage of Miesville Ravine Park Reserve Trailhead, which includes over 2 miles of trails. During the summer, the trails are densely wooded and perfect for hiking, and in the winter, the trails are used for snowshoeing.

Lake Byllesby Regional Park: A park located within Cannon Falls is another amenity used by the community of New Trier. The park is situated in the Cannon River Valley by the largest lake in southern Dakota County. Lake Byllesby Regional Park Trailhead offers access to over 3 miles of trails year round. In the summer months, hiking is available, and in the winter months the trails are used for dogsledding and skijoring. The trails also offer panoramic views of the Lake Byllesby Reservoir. At the lake there is a beach, which if perfect for leisurely summer days. Other amenities include a boat launch, fishing, bonfire ring, children’s playground, horseshoe pits, restrooms, and picnic shelters. Lake Byllesby Regional Park is also home to a campground.

Another outdoor amenity enjoyed by New Trier residents is the Cannon Valley Trail in Cannon Valley. The Cannon Valley Trail is a 19.7 mile trail that runs through beautiful scenery on the former Chicago Great Western Railroad line. The trail offers panoramic views and gradually descends 115 feet. Locals enjoy the Cannon Valley Trail year round with bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding, hiking, walking, and cross country skiing.
