Mendota, Minnesota is served by the West St. Paul – Mendota Heights – Eagan Area Schools, also known as Independent School District 197. Around 4,800 students are enrolled in the district in the communities of Lilydale, Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota, Mendota Heights, Sunfish Lake, and West St. Paul. Students in the City of Mendota attend schools in neighboring cities.

Mendota Elementary is located in the neighboring city of Mendota Heights. The school serves around 350 students from preschool to fourth grade. In 2015, Mendota Elementary was ranked better than 94 percent of other elementary schools in the state of Minnesota, and first in the district. In the same year, students scored a calculated 85 on the Average Standard Score. Twenty-three teachers serve full-time at the Elementary school, with class sizes average around 15 students. Students in Mendota grades 5-8 attend Friendly Hills Middle School, which serves around 700 students. A Gifted and Talented students program is offered at each grade to provide outstanding education for all levels of learning. Saint Thomas is a boys catholic school that offers college-preparatory classes and military leadership instruction for grades 7-12. The academy’s goal is to prepare young men for success in college and life after graduation. Saint Thomas is nationally accredited and is spread out over 88-acres of land on Rogers Lake. Students excel academically, with STA scores that exceed state and national scores and 99 percent of students who continue their education beyond high school.

Henry Sibley High School serves 9th through 12th grade students in district 197. Henry Sibley High School provides an excellent academic program designed to give students a personalized learning experience while preparing them for college courses. Sibley serves 1,361 students and provides a small enough environment to build meaningful relationships while offering the same rigorous curriculum as other high schools. Sibley offers Advanced Placement opportunities as well as college level courses such as College in the Schools and Post Secondary Enrollment Option designed to give students a jump start on their college courses. Henry Sibley High School provides numerous opportunities for students to be involved with the school including over 50 clubs, sports teams, service activities, and other academic organizations.
