City of Forest Lake: Community Life

Forest Lake is located in the northwestern part of the Twin Cities Metro Area. Just a 30-minute drive from the Twin Cities, Forest Lake is fast growing community conveniently located off Interstate 35. The city covers 35.5 square miles of land and has a population of over 19,000 residents with over 7,000 households. The city of Forest Lake is host several events available to the community. One of the many events held in Forest Lake is the annual Fourth of July event. Forest Lake also offers several walking, biking, hiking, and running trails around the lake for residents to use and enjoy the beautiful scenery that Forest Lake has to offer.

Another attraction that locals enjoy is the YMCA. The YMCA features a 4 lane lap pool, a leisure pool with a slide, indoor walking track, outdoor play area, and much more. The YMCA looks to strengthen communities through youth development healthy living.

Residents of the growing community also have access to Hardwood Creek Library. Hardwood Creek Library is a public library with the Washington County Library system. Hardwood Creek Library seeks to inspire curiosity, promote innovation, and create opportunity.

Wildlife is a big part of Forest Lake. With its rolling hills, forests, and lakes there is much wildlife to be seen. The city is a major destination for fishing and has a high population of northern pike, largemouth bass, walleye, panfish, and muskie. Fishing can be enjoyed year round in Forest Lake and at one point was the bass capital of Minnesota.

This community is also home to the Wildlife Science Center, an internationally-known research and educational facility that studies several different species specializing in wolves. Wildlife Science Center has the largest captive population of privately maintained wolves in the United States.

The city of Forest Lake is a beautiful and attractive community with a rapidly growing population.
