City of Coates: Community Life

The city of Coates, Minnesota is located 18 miles south of St. Paul in central Dakota County. The city is named after Henry C. Coates, a Civil War Captain, who served in the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. Coates is a rural small town community with a total of 163 residents. Although Coates does not have an abundance of amenities within the city, its close proximity to St. Paul and surrounding suburbs make it a great community to call home.

One of the biggest attractions in the City of Coates is the House of Coates. The House of Coates is a burger joint located on the south end of town. The restaurant offers excellent food, drawing customers from around the state. They offer several different burgers, sandwiches, and sides. According to the magazine Minnesota Monthly, the House of Coates is one of the best burger places in the state.

Although, the city does not have many amenities to offer, its small town feel and simple lifestyle more than makeup for it.
