The City of Scandia is a part of the Forest Lake School District. The district itself serves the cities of Marine of the St. Croix, Forest Lake, Wyoming, Linwood, Lino Lakes, Bethel, Columbus, Ham Lake, Stacey, and the northern region of Hugo. The community of Scandia realizes the importance of education with almost 1,800 families residing in the city.
Scandia Elementary School is the only school located in the City of Scandia. Over 350 students attend the school and around 20 teachers are employed full-time. Scandia Elementary has been of Minnesota School of Excellence since 1995 and has recently become an International Baccalaureate World School in 2015. Located in the nearby city of Forest Lake is Columbus Elementary School, which enrolls some of the students in Scandia. The school’s goal is to provide students with challenging studies and encouragement to contribute their best effort in the classroom. In 2003, the school was awarded with the Minnesota Elementary School Principal’s Association School of Excellence. Columbus serves over 400 students from grades K-6, with 24 full-time teachers.
Also located in Forest Lake is Southwest Junior High, where some of Scandia’s junior high students attend. The school has about 40 teachers who serve 800 students in grades 7-9. The goal of the staff is to provide a respectful, welcoming environment where students of all backgrounds can excel academically, physically, and emotionally. In 2015, the calculated Average Test Score of the school was 75. Southwest provides one of the best student to teacher ratios in the district, with a calculated ratio of 17.3 to 1.
Students of Scandia in grades 10-12 attend Forest Lake Senior High in the neighboring city of Forest Lake. The school serves around 1,440 students in total, with rigorous studies for all its students. The mission of Forest Lake Senior High is ensure that all students graduate with the skills necessary to attend college, university, technical college, or training program and succeed. The school offers students to earn as many as two years of college credit through PSEO and AP classes. Speciality classes are also offered in five-year world language programs in Spanish, French, and Chinese. Forest Lake also boasts an award-winning orchestra, band, and choir for beginning and advanced students. A wide variety of athletic opportunities are available to students, with sports teams such as cross-country running, soccer, football, swim and dive, volleyball, basketball, dance, alpine skiing, wrestling, baseball, and more.
