In 1945 a man by the name of V.S. Petersen helped build a cooperative village on 1,203 acres of land near Baldwin Lake. The cooperative was designed to give homeowners equal shares in the cooperative association that owned and developed the town. The cooperative village was named Circle Pines after the symbol that represented the cooperative, which was a pine tree with a circle around it. After three years the cooperative was abandoned because of financial problems and disagreements between leaders of the cooperative.
In 1950, the area of Circle Pines as well as parts of Blaine and Centerville townships formed and were incorporated as a village. In 1974 the city of Circle Pines was Incorporated.
Today the city of Circle Pines is an attractive community that has experienced much growth over the years. The population of has grown from 2,798 in 1960 to nearly 5,000 residents today. The city is home to over 2,000 houses and 1,349 families. Circle Pines rich history and cooperative past have influenced the city it is today. Circle Pines is home to several businesses, excellent schools, and great people.
