Belle Plaine Public Schools (district 716) is a district that has a small school environment with big school opportunities. Most of these school are much newer, as the city has not had its own schools in the past. The district mission is to instill excellence in everyone. Belle Plaine has two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
Oak Crest Elementary School was built in 2007 to serve the Belle Plaine students in grades 3-6. They enroll about 500 students each year. In 2014, they were given the name of a Minnesota School of Excellence. OCES is a community and organization of Professional Learning communities. A professional learning community focuses on three big themes. The first is learning as the fundamental purpose of the school. The second is cultivation of a collaborative culture through the development of high performing teams. The last is being results-oriented and assessing effectiveness on the basis of those results.
As a faculty and staff, Belle Plaine Junior High is highly committed to working with students at this unique age to achieve academic success and to maintain personal wellness. They understand that great physical and emotional changes occur during these years of life. This time of extreme change and development is exciting and challenging. The school offers a comprehensive, engaging curriculum that focuses on the success of all learners. In addition to traditional core curriculum, they offer accelerated math courses, world languages instruction, industrial arts, family sciences, music, computer education, physical education, health, and visual arts. Belle Plaine Junior High School also provides a variety of extracurricular activities.
Belle Plaine High School offers comprehensive programs including college preparation, employment programs, athletics and fine arts. Students have the chance to succeed and go above and beyond. At BPHS honors, AP, and College in the Schools/Concurrent Enrollment classes are offered.
