New Trier, Minnesota began as a village in Hampton Township. Today’s city was named after New Trier, Germany, which is where many of the native settlers were from. On March 3, 1874, New Trier was incorporated as a city. A post office called New Trier began in 1867 and was in operation until 1933.
Today, the city of New Trier is a quaint small town with about 112 residents situated in Dakota County.
