This is the Best time to buy a home. Just think, prices are incredibly reasonable, interest rates are so low, borrowing money is practically free, the selection of homes is good, homesellers are willing to negotiate. Wow, it just does not get better than this to buy a home.
I am not saying you won’t have hurdles, but following the right steps, will minimize the difficulties.
First step, of course, contact a Realtor, hopefully, me. Don’t expect to go looking at houses the first time you meet with a realtor. Sit down, talk the them, tell them what you want, need and hope for. Tell them about financial issues you might be having or have had, Remember, when you hire an agent to work for you, your information is confidential. Talk about what representation means and looks like. It is very reassuring to know there is someone in your corner ready to go to bat for you.
A good agent will then arrange for you to meet with a lender to discuss your financial qualifications to buy a home. It does not make good sense to look at homes first, fall in love with one only to find out later that it is out or your price range. You will also be a stronger buyer when the time comes to negotiate with the sellers.
Ask questions, ask questions, ask questions, you are making a huge investment, and buying a house is best done using your head, let your heart make the house you like your home. Don’t be afraid to ask your agent to explain the buyer representation agreement. It is there to protect you and your agent.
Once you have been pre-approved and your agent knows your wants and needs, you are ready to go.
Have fun, this is a happy time, especially if it’s your first. Happy House Hunting.
