Parklawn is located in the southeast quadrant of the city of Edina. The neighborhood takes its name from the main street that curves through the neighborhood from 77th Street to France Avenue. It is bordered on the north by the properties on Gallagher and Parklawn Avenues, on the east by France Avenue, and on the south and west by 76th Street and the Fred Richards Golf Course. The 280 residential dwellings in this neighborhood consist of multi-unit condos, townhomes, and apartments that were built mainly in the 1960’s to 70’s.
Parklawn is conveniently located as it is within walking distance of Cornelia School and Park. The majority of the complexes come with pools, storage space, and some with even underground parking. The whole neighborhood is within the Edina school district. In 2016-17, the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail will be finished through this neighborhood along with others, with access off both Parklawn and Gallagher to the trail. Also, Parklawn provides pedestrian access to Centennial Lakes, the Promenade walking and biking paths, and shopping options including Whole Foods of Edina and the Centennial Lakes shops. With the best ice-skating, fishing, shopping, and schools in the city all within walking distance, it is no wonder why many love to call Parklawn home.
There are several parks located within the Parklawn neighborhood:
Fred Richards Park: Fred Richards Park is under construction and will become a multi-purpose park in the future, retaining most of the space for passive naturalistic park space with walking and biking paths.
Lake Edina Park: Lake Edina Park is a 3-acre park found within the Parklawn neighborhood. While part of the park has been assimilated into the Richards Golf Course, the park rests in the center of the course. Visitors enjoy the open space that the park provides and the scenic beauty of the nearby golf course.
