The University community, located in the central-eastern section of Minneapolis, is home to nearly 40,000 residents. A collection of 6 neighborhoods, University is known for its scenic location near the downtown area and several major area schools. The 6 neighborhoods found within the community are Cedar-Riverside, Como, Marcy-Holmes, Nicollet Island/East Bank, Prospect Park, and University. Within each neighborhood, residents and visitors alike can enjoy a variety of amenities and parks.
The major organization in this community is the University of Minnesota, hence the name. Both the West Bank and the East Bank of the campus is encompassed by this community and not in any particular neighborhood. TCF Bank Stadium is on the east side of the community, and is not only home to the NCAA’s Minnesota Golden Gophers, but also hosted the NHL’s Minnesota Vikings for a brief period.
Residents of the University community benefit from having access to fabulous infrastructure. With the metro transit light rails running throughout the area and superb access to Interstate 35W and State Highway 280, any destination within the metro area is easily accessible. Because of the University of Minnesota’s presence, there are many entertainment, dining, and housing options for students and residents alike, making this community one of the more diverse and active areas in the city.
