The City of Lilydale, Minnesota was established in 1886. The city was named after the abundance of lily pads in Pickerel Lake. Originally, the town was situated on river flats. After flooding several times, the community decided to move to the top of the bluffs. The town was farmland and a gravel pit at one time. In 1901, the community was incorporated as a village.

Today, the community is made up of townhomes, condominiums, apartments, and a few family houses. Most of the population is located on the river bluffs, overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River. Lilydale has the feel of both country and city and is situated in close proximity to the Twin Cities Metropolitan area
