St. Louis Park, Minnesota began when two landowners from Minneapolis decided to hire a group of businessmen to start building homes in the late 1880’s. This building company was called St. Louis Park Land and Improvement Company, therefore giving inspiration to the name of this wonderful city. The Minneapolis Land and Investment Company was hired to start building infrastructure in the city, as they focused on developing the larger buildings for local businesses. This city was originally meant to be part of Minneapolis’s expansion to the west. However, the community felt they were established and large enough to become their own town and were officially incorporated in 1886. If it had not been for this incorporation, Minneapolis may have continued to move further west, resulting in an even bigger city.

In 1890, the village had more than six-hundred industrial jobs, most of them consisting of agricultural practices. As the 1890’s went by, the town saw more development and success. Soon, the downtown area was big enough to gain its place on the map. In 1899, St. Louis Park hosted the world’s first concrete elevator that provided an alternative to wooden elevators.

In 1954, St. Louis Park officially became a city. Today, St. Louis Park mainly focuses on improving the quality of life for its residents, as it now has a population of over 47,000 locals.
