St. Louis Park: Fern Hill Neighborhood

The Fern Hill neighborhood is situated in eastern St. Louis Park in Ward 1. Fern Hill is bordered by the neighborhoods of Lake Forest, Birchwood, and Triangle as well as Minneapolis to the east. In terms of residential size, Fern Hill is the largest neighborhood in St. Louis Park.

Fern Hill covers 384.5 acres and has 51 residential blocks. In total, there are approximately 2,600 residents who call Fern Hill home. The neighborhood features 1,338 housing units, which include 958 single family homes, 27 condominiums, 59 townhomes, 268 apartments units, and 26 duplex units. About 50 percent of the single-family homes within Fern Hill were built before 1945, and the average year built was 1945. Fern Hill has a variety of home types, including mid-century moderns and colonials.

Even though there are not many entertainment options within the neighborhood, locals have easy access to countless amenities nearby. The Shops at West End are less than 10 minutes from Fern Hill and provide an abundance of dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities. Minneapolis has options for all entertainment needs and downtown is situated just 5 miles from Fern Hill.

About 10 percent of the neighborhood is comprised of parks and open space. Within Fern Hill, there are two neighborhood park, Fern Hill Park and Twin Lakes Park.

Fern Hill Park: Fern Hill Park is situated in the south central portion of the neighborhood. This park features a playground, sun shelter, and park building. Sports options at Fern Hill include ball fields, basketball, and horseshoe.

Twin Lakes Park: Twin Lakes Park is a quaint park that offers play equipment, a ballfield, basketball court, and sun shelter.
