Students in South St. Paul are served by South St. Paul Special School District 6, which was established in 1890 when voters established an independent Board of Education. Currently, the district serves around 3,500 students in two elementary schools, one secondary school, and an alternative learning center. The city is also home to two private schools.

Lincoln Center Elementary is one of the two elementary schools within South St Paul. The school serves students from preschool through 5th grade with a teacher to student ratio of 15:1. The staff at Lincoln Center Elementary is dedicated to the work of continuously improving the school’s educational offerings and to making the school district one of the best. Lincoln Center is also an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) World School, which means that the academic content offered is aligned with that of the state of Minnesota. Another IB World School in South St. Paul is South St. Paul Secondary School. The school serves around 1,400 students from grades 6-10 and an IB Diploma Program for students in grades 11 and 12. Secondary School employes 74 teachers with a teacher to student ratio of 18:1. As an IB school, Secondary School’s mission is to produce high student achievement within a safe, caring, and learning environment. The school’s philosophy is to balance skills, exploratory classes, and IB programming. Core curriculum includes a strong foundation in science, math, Language A, and Social Studies.

Holy Trinity Catholic School is one of South St. Paul’s most outstanding schools. Holy Trinity is a parish school and community of students, staff, and parents working together to create a Christian learning environment in which students in grades K-8 can fully develop their skills, knowledge, and spirituality. Students at Holy Trinity take the Stanford 10 Achievement Test. In 2012, the average of all student’s scores was a full grade higher than the national average. The core of academics at Holy Trinity is Theology, but students also study language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, art, and music. Athletics are also offered to students. Holy Trinity participates in baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, and running.

Another private school located within South St. Paul is St. John Vianney Catholic School. Established in 1992, SJV is Christ-centered community that strives to educate both the minds and hearts of its students while achieving high academic standards and embracing the call to serve. The private school serves students from grades K-8 with approximately 28 teachers, including special and extended care teachers. St John Vianney School Catholic School mission is to empower young people to embrace their God-given talents, and vocation to positively contribute to society.
