City of Inver Grove Heights: Schools & District 199

Inver Grove Heights area schools are excellent. Most of the city of Inver Grove Heights is served by Independent School District 199. The District operates five schools in the city: Simley High School, Inver Grove Heights Middle School, Hilltop Elementary, Pine Bend Elementary, and Salem Hills Elementary.

Salem Hills Elementary is also home to Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program which is proud to be a National Blue Ribbon High Performing School. The U.S. Department of Education awarded the school the designation in 2011. The Atheneum program started in Inver Grove Heights in 2002. It serves students in grades 2-5. Students in Atheneum have to meet eligibility criteria determined by a district identification committee. Students invited to participate have been tested and found to be in the superior range of cognitive ability.

Simley High School has consistently ranked among the top high schools in the nation according to Newsweek Magazine.  

There is one private school for preschool through eighth grade within the boundaries of Inver Grove Heights: Berea Lutheran School.

The western part of Inver Grove Heights is served by Independent School District 196, with students attending Dakota Hills Middle School, Rosemount Middle School, Eagan High School, and Rosemount High School

Inver Grove Heights is also home to Inver Hills Community College. Founded in 1970, the college is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU) system. The 90-acre campus consists of nine buildings, as opposed to many community and technical colleges, which are mainly housed in one or two buildings. Inver Hills has more than 4,000 students per semester, and the college offers 27 degree associate programs in liberal education as well as career-related degrees
