Learn more about a peaceful oasis called Princeton

An important aspect of living near Green Lake is that it is in between two well established cities, Princeton, and Cambridge. These two towns offer a haven for both permanent residents as well as vacationers. The area is so rich with the northern taste of Minnesota, that both towns are the location of many cabins. Both Princeton and Cambridge are unique in that they provide the coveted flavor of the northern portion of the state, but they are still close to the Twin Cities.

Princeton, Minnesota is located 8 miles to the west of Green Lake and about an hour away from Minneapolis. Princeton is in the Mille Lacs and Sherburne counties, and is 50 miles north of Minneapolis. This town was originally established in 1856, and is the closest town to Green Lake’s near west that is already well established. Here, the residents around Green Lake are able to find plenty of amenities, supplies, and shopping.

One entertainment feature in Princeton is the local golf course. Princeton Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 71 golf course located near the beautiful Rum River that flows through the town. Designed by Joel Goldstrand, Princeton Golf Course opened in 1955. As golfers experience the woods and other obstacles of this challenging course, they will confront a mix of dog legs and golf holes that may impede their success, where the only ally is skill. Many small lakes and the Rum River will bring water into play on 12 of the 18 holes. At nearly 6,400 yards, Princeton Golf Course will offer a test for golfers of all abilities. The design of the course forces golfers to use all of the clubs that they own.

In addition to the golf course, Princeton has several restaurants, the Fairview Northland Medical Center, and three schools. The city has an elementary school, a middle school, and high school, which serve not only Princeton but the surrounding area as well. The city also has a local park called Mark Park, which offers a splash pad, one baseball field, three softball fields, restrooms, picnic shelters, barbecue areas, picnic tables, and a playground. For those that love to shop at Green Lake, there is a local bait shop that offers fishing supplies that make any fishing experience the best it can be.

Cambridge, Minnesota is located 10 miles to the east of Green Lake and also just one hour outside of the Minneapolis area. The local Wal-Mart and Menards offer plenty of the basic everyday needs for the residents and vacationers in the area. The city also has several parks that offer plenty of amenities. Just as the sizes of Cambridge’s parks fluctuate greatly, so do the features of each. Visitors can find paved trails for walking and biking, picnic tables, benches, and playground equipment in most. Others have a more specific focus, enabling certain activities like basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis and skating. The city's far-reaching trail system attaches Cambridge's many parks together, providing residents with the chance to get around by bicycle, inline skate, snowshoe, cross-country skis, snowmobile or the old school walk.
