Isanti County is located 35 miles directly north of Minneapolis and is included in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, metro statistical area. Isanti is bordered by Anoka County to the south and Kanabec County to the north. The county is made up of three cities, with the City of Cambridge serving as the county seat. All three of the cities located in Isanti offer a small-town feel with well-connected and welcoming communities.
Because of its close proximity to the Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 169, many companies are relocating to the business-friendly county. Isanti County is also located on the mainline of the BNSF Railway between Minneapolis and Duluth, with plans for the construction of high speed passenger rail and commuter rail stations in the future.
The county seat of Cambridge is the home of Anoka-Ramsey Community College, which offers programs in natural sciences, art and communication, info systems, health science technology, human services, business, and technology. Allina Medical Center and Hospital is also located in Cambridge, along with a regional library.
Isanti County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Minnesota, with the population expected to grow by 53 percent between 2010 and 2030. The estimated population boom is primarily credited to the highly sought after school districts, small towns, employment opportunities, and low housing prices. Each of the cities contain charming shops and unique dining experiences, including Braham, which is the homemade Pie Capital of the State. Isanti is also home to a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities on its lush, spacious landscapes. The largest outdoor amenity is the Rum River, which runs through Cambridge. Here, residents can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and fishing on the swift flowing waters of the river.
