Situated in the southeastern tip of Wright County, Delano, Minnesota lies about 35 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. Delano is comprised of 4.05 square miles of land. Since 1880, the population has grown from 407 to 5,464 residents. Within the city, there are about 1,958 households, 1,417 of which are families. Of these households, 44.3% have children under 18. Delano, Minnesota has a rich history. With the arrival of the railroad in 1868, the city began to experience a population boom of new settlers. In 1868, Delano was platted and named after railroad officer Francis Roach Delano. The post office in Delano has been in operation since 1870. Within Delano, there are three buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings include the Eagle Newspaper Office of the 1880s, Delano Village Hall constructed in 1888, and Simon Weldele House built in 1893.

In 2013, Delano was selected as the “Best School for Your Housing Buck” out of all towns in the United States, because students outperformed on standardized tests and college entrance exams. Delano also offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Residents enjoy the Crow River, more than 12 parks, Lake Rebecca Park Reserve, various sports teams, and almost 16 miles of trails.
