Cambridge, Minnesota is located at the junction of Minnesota State Highways 65 and 95 in Isanti County. The city is the county seat of Isanti County and is situated 46 miles north of the Twin Cities. Cambridge, also known as the “City on the Rum River”, was named by New England settlers, even though the city and the surrounding area is mainly populated by Swedish immigrants. In fact, Cambridge is known for having the highest percentage of Swedish Americans in the state, with 5,000 of the 8,111 residents being of Swedish descent. The city was officially established in 1876 with just a potato starch factory, flour mill, wool carding and spinning mill, an electric lighting plant, and local and long-distance telephone system. Cambridge covers a total of 7.68 square miles of land, 0.22 square miles of which is water.

Residents of Cambridge enjoy various amenities that are available within the historic city. The largest attraction is the Rum River, which runs through the city. Here, residents can experience recreational activities on the swift river with activities like kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. Cambridge’s historic downtown area is home to a variety of vibrant and charming shops and restaurants. The city also features numerous biking trails, recreational fields, fishings spots, and playgrounds.
