City of Mayer: Community Life

The city of Mayer, Minnesota is a small town with close to 1,800 residents. Located west of the Twin Cities metro area and the city of Waconia, Mayer, Minnesota features a close-knit and active community. It is not uncommon to see residents engaging in all sorts of community events throughout the year. In addition, the city offers its citizens a number of amenities. In addition to these activities, the festival also includes bounce houses, a climbing wall, food, bingo, wagon rides, and live music. Another annual event is the Moxie 5k, A 5k that focuses on community fitness and physical wellness, this race takes place at the local Old Schoolhouse Park. The Mayer Fire Department Fish Fry is a fall annual event that residents look forward to. It is put on by the Mayer Fire Department to support their efforts and features an all-you-can-eat meal. In addition to bringing the community together for a meal, this event also features bake sales from local community partners.

Mayer is home to its own amateur baseball team, the Mayer Blazers. As one of the older amateur teams in Minnesota, the Blazers have always had the support of the community. As part of the community’s past time, many residents enjoy watching games at the local Lutheran High School field in town.

Several amenities are offered within the city of Mayer. One amenity is the Mayer Community Center. Home to the city offices and many other city functions, the Mayer Community Center is also available to be used as a location for parties, weddings, or anniversaries. With the capacity to accommodate 400 people, it is a great resource for the community. One of the most popular events hosted at the community center are senior potlucks, which take place for senior citizens on a monthly basis.

Another amenity offered within the city is community education. Community education is made available through the Watertown-Mayer Community Education program. Located in the neighboring city of Watertown, a number of courses ranging in a variety of subjects are available for the residents of the city of Mayer. The special partnership that exists between Watertown and Mayer helps both cities benefit and grow in their respective communities.

In addition to the amenities listed, Mayer has numerous places of worship and a wide range of businesses within its city boundaries. For those seeking greater variety and more options, the nearby city of Waconia offers additional shopping, dining, and entertainment. Furthermore, the city is approximately 37 miles (45 min) from Minneapolis, meaning that the excitement and variety of the big city is only a short drive away.
