City of Anoka: A Brief Overview

The city of Anoka, Minnesota is a medium-sized city located slightly northwest of the Twin Cities metro. Home to around 17,000 residents, the city of Anoka encompasses an area of just over 7 square miles. The city is located on the southern border of Anoka County, and is the county seat or administrative center for Anoka County. Known as the “Halloween Capital of the World” due to the fact that the city hosted one of the first Halloween parades in 1920, Anoka features a rich history and vibrant community. Residents cherish the city’s numerous programs, beautiful parks, flowing rivers, and active downtown area with shops and restaurants.

Located about 20 miles (25 minutes) away from Minneapolis, Anoka offers its residents a comfortable suburban life with access to big-city amenities and employment. Major routes through the city include US Highways 10 and 169, as well as State Highway 47. All three of these routes help to connect Anoka’s residents to the rest of the Twin Cities metro area.

While there are many employment opportunities available within Anoka, residents also benefit from the city’s great infrastructure which enables residents to pursue extensive employment options within the greater metro area. The city is served by the Northstar Commuter Rail line, a cheap transportation option which connects the northwest suburbs to downtown Minneapolis. With incredible access to the cities, a charming community, and plenty of great housing options, Anoka is a great place to call home.
