Oakdale, Minnesota, located in Washington County, is the 32nd largest city in the state. Even with its large population size, Oakdale remains a tight-knit community with a small-town feel. By far the largest event is the Summerfest, which is held at Walton Park in June of each year. Another community favorite event in Oakdale is Winter Days. The event has recently been revamped and moved to its new location in the Oakdale Discovery Center. The family-friendly event features a giant bonfire with s’mores, free breakfast and lunch, hayrides, indoor visits with Santa Claus, holiday crafts and facepainting, sledding hill, petting zoo, and dog sled rides.

The amenities in Oakdale attract visitors and shape the community. The Oakdale Golf Club and Course offers a premium golfing experience at an affordable cost. The course consists of rolling hills, expertly maintained greens, and mature trees. The 18-hole course is located on Lake Allie with a driving range, practice green, pro shop, full service grill and bar, and banquet facilities. The club also hosts weddings, groom’s dinners, business meetings, and holiday parties.

One of the most used amenities in Oakdale is the Oakdale Library. As a part of the Washington County Library System, residents of Oakdale have access to the newest books, DVDs, and CDs. The library also offers adult, teen, and kids programs. The branch also includes conference rooms and computers. Another amenity available to the community is the Marcus Oakdale Cinema. The theatre shows the latest movies with comfortable seating and dining options. Residents of the city also enjoy the various parks and trails spread throughout Oakdale, with plenty of recreational opportunities such as biking, archery, and cross-country skiing. The different lakes within Oakdale also provide water activities such as boating, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

Oakdale is also served by several important organizations that help to strengthen the ties of the community. Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is non-profit organization that has a branch in Oakdale working to create awareness for the purpose of connecting Service members and their families with community support, training, services, and resources. The city is also served by the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf (CCEFS), which provides food for those facing a job loss or illness.

The community of Oakdale is also largely shaped by its close proximity to St. Paul and the Twin Cities area. Residents of Oakdale commute only 7 miles to St. Paul. Here, they can enjoy various dining, shopping, and entertainment amenities. Numerous business opportunities also exist in the big city.
