The city of Lakeland is served by Stillwater Public Schools and Independent School District 834. Stillwater Public Schools looks to ensure the needs of each student are met through continually improving and setting high expectations and standards. School District 834 serves 8,300 students and has over 1,000 employees. Stillwater Public Schools has 10 elementary schools, 2 Junior High Schools, one High School, and one Alternative Learning Center.

Afton-Lakeland Elementary School serves over 500 students in K-6th grade in the Stillwater Area Public School District. Afton-Lakeland seeks to provide each student with an excellent education and help them become the best student they can be. The school also provides great teachers, who help each student reach their highest potential. The teachers help make learning fun and encourage each student to do their best. Afton-Lakeland also offers several extracurricular activities including band, choir, and orchestra as well as sports including baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and many more.

Oak-Land Junior High School is one of 2 Jr. High Schools in School District 834 and serves over 800 students in 7th through 9th grade. The school serves students in Lake Elmo, Bayport, Afton, Lakeland, and portions of Stillwater and Woodbury. Oak-Land looks to set high standards for all students by offering high-quality education. The school also offers AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, to all students in  8th and 9th grade. AVID is a college readiness program that helps students prepare for and succeed in college. AVID is designed to help increase schoolwide learning and performance. Oak-Land also offers several athletics, activities, and clubs to all students. Many of the sports that students can enjoy are baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, softball, and many more. Students can also participate choir, orchestra, band, and much more. The sports, clubs, and activities at Oak-land Junior High are designed to help students build teamwork, commitment, and character.

St. Croix Preparatory Academy is a charter school, located in Stillwater, that serves 1,200 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. St. Croix Prep. looks to ensure each student reaches their academic potential as well as build character and develop leadership qualities. They do this by providing rigorous academics and a content rich program. St. Croix follows the classical education model, which focuses on students developing critical thinking and lifelong educational tools. Classical Education is grounded in the Trivium model of learning, which stresses critical learning skills before critical thinking skills. The Trivium model is organized in three stages: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Since opening in 2004, St. Croix Preparatory Academy has been one of the highest performing schools in Minnesota and has achieved some of the highest Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment scores in the state.

Stillwater Area High School serves over 2,000 students in 10th through 12th grade. Stillwater High School is one of the oldest High Schools in Minnesota and was built to provide students with a personal education. The school has a 6 period day with a 2 semester year. Stillwater looks to prepare students for college and work after school by providing a rigorous academic program. The school offers Advanced Placement courses in English, French, Spanish, Art History, U.S. History, American Government, Psychology, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, and Chemistry. Stillwater High School also offers Post Secondary Enrollment Options for students at local technical colleges and universities. Stillwater also offers numerous sports including baseball, basketball, hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and much more. They also provide several fine arts options including choir, band, orchestra, and theatre. Stillwater High School is known for it’s strong natural science program and encourages it among their students. The school is home to an Environmental Learning Center(ELC) that includes fields, ponds forests, and wildlife. The ELC helps students enhance their learning classroom instruction by receiving hands on experience.
